sesqui presents the ontario premiere of horizon at sudbury’s science north

The free event is part of SESQUI’s national tour, travelling coast to coast to coast in 2017

Sudbury, June 13 – Today, SESQUI, a Canada 150 Signature Project, presents the Ontario premiere of the 360° film HORIZON at Science North in Sudbury. The event offers free screenings of the 22-minute immersive experience celebrating Canada’s 150th.

Created and captured with advanced 360° technology and filmed at 9K resolution, HORIZON is a soaring visual symphony, putting viewers in the centre of the action through an inspiring showcase of Canadian creative expression. Filmed in all 10 provinces and 3 territories and combining both urban and natural landscapes, HORIZON draws upon artistic inspiration from the Canadian cultural mosaic.

“SESQUI is about bringing people together in the communities where they live to celebrate our country and share in our culture of creativity,” said Andrea Stewart, SESQUI Executive Producer. “We are thrilled to share this experience with audiences in Sudbury and offer a new and inspiring way to see and understand Canada.”

HORIZON Cinematographer and Sudbury native Ray Dumas was also on hand to share his experience filming across Canada and working with the groundbreaking technology behind the production.

“Working on HORIZON was one of the best professional experiences of my life,” said Dumas. “Filming in 360° wasn’t easy and we faced new challenges every day, but it was worth it. HORIZON is a stunning display of Canada in the raw; a celebration of our country that showcases our creative spirit and capacity for technical innovation.”

Audiences at Science North can enjoy ticketed screenings of HORIZON every Saturday in June and daily throughout the summer. The centre is one of many locations across the country showcasing the film; through the cinematic dome tour, fixed-dome theatres, pop-up dome events and VR exhibitions, audiences across Canada can experience HORIZON and other SESQUI programs. The film is also available through SESQUI’s mobile app, MERIDIAN VR, available on iOS and android.

HORIZON is directed by Drew Lightfoot and produced by Jen Scott with Executive Producers Joanne Loton and Andrea Stewart.  The film was made possible through support from the Government of Canada and from various technology, equipment, production and other public partners across the country.
