For the last eight months, our production team has travelled coast to coast to coast, shooting the SESQUI film HORIZON. Created and captured entirely in 360°, HORIZON is a cinematic journey into the heart of Canada, showcasing the people, landscapes and freedoms that make us proud to call this country home.
Here are six things to know about HORIZON:
1) From the frozen waters of Fish Lake in the Yukon to the high tides of Fundy in New Brunswick, HORIZON was filmed in every province and territory, in only 40 shoot days.
2) While the crew consisted of a small but mighty team of eight, the number of on-screen performers was much higher. More than 385 Canadians showcase a range of athletic and artistic talents in HORIZON.
3) With five different 360° camera rigs and as many as 30 GoPros in use at any given time, it took 50 cases to store and transport all of the production gear.
4) Temperatures dropped to as low as -36°C (before the wind chill factor) while filming in Yellowknife last March. It was without a doubt, the coldest day on set.
5) We spent two weeks in northern Quebec trying to capture the caribou migration. Just when we thought we were out of luck the folks at Great Canadian Wildlife Adventures helped us find them in the Ungava Peninsula of Nunavik.
6) One of the most unforgettable moments was at Phil’s Shed in Fogo Island, where locals and tourists gather to sing, dance and share personal stories. It’s known as Newfoundland’s most iconic shed party and for good reason. The hospitality extended by Phil and his regulars make for a truly memorable experience.
Traveling the country to film HORIZON was an opportunity for us to connect and reconnect with the people and places that make Canada home. Every location was full of charm and wonder and everyone we met had a unique journey to share. HORIZON is a collection of these journeys that together, tell the story of Canada.
