The Power of Youth Perspective

Young Canadians have a long history of volunteerism, driving events and supporting organizations that aim to create change across the country. Thousands of charities and non-profits thrive because of the time, energy and enthusiasm of young people.

Alexia Lim is a recent graduate and part of the SESQUI team. When we talked to her about her experience volunteering, she had nothing but positive memories to share.

“As a young volunteer, I worked in various roles, advocating for social justice, helping out at local community centres and supporting public events. Volunteering has been a great way for me to share my passions and gain a sense of purpose. I learned responsibility, leadership and communication skills and developed an appreciation for serving others. I realized my efforts had a lasting impact and influenced positive change in my community.”

Volunteering is about giving – but it can also be an opportunity for personal growth and development. At SESQUI, we know youth have a powerful voice full of passion and perspective and the ambition to shape the world we live in. As we begin the next chapter of Canada’s future in 2017, we want to offer young Canadians a platform to share their vision and inform our nation’s future.

There will be many ways for youth to represent their communities and participate in the 150th milestone. We’ll be recruiting for the Youth Advisory Committee, Ambassadors program and general volunteers throughout 2016 and 2017. Together, we will deliver a memorable sesquicentennial experience for everyone!
