SESQUI presents the world premiere of THE 360° film horizon at calgary’s telus spark

The special red carpet event kicks-off the national tour, travelling coast to coast to coast in 2017

CALGARY, May 4 – Today, SESQUI, a Canada 150 Signature Project, presents the world premiere of the 360° film HORIZON at Calgary’s TELUS Spark. The free red carpet event kicks-off the national tour with the first-ever public screening of HORIZON.

The 22-minute film is a soaring visual symphony, putting viewers in the centre of the action through an inspiring showcase of Canadian creative expression. Filmed in all 10 provinces and 3 territories and combining both urban and natural landscapes, HORIZON draws upon artistic inspiration from the Canadian cultural mosaic.

“HORIZON is a celebration of the people, landscapes and freedoms that come together to make Canada home for all of us,” said HORIZON Director Drew Lightfoot. “We are excited to finally share this film with Canadians and premiere it here in Calgary.”

Created and captured with advanced 360° technology and filmed at 9K resolution, audiences at TELUS Spark will enjoy the first free screenings of HORIZON. The film’s director and producers will be in attendance to offer remarks and answer questions about the filming process and the innovative technology behind the production. Also on display, SESQUI’s MERIDIAN VR experience, as well as activities from other Canada 150 partners and community organizations including Calgary’s own 3 Things for Canada (www.ThreeThingsforCanada.ca), an initiative of Mayor Naheed Nenshi’s Civic Engagement Committee.

“Canada’s sesquicentennial year is a great opportunity to celebrate all the things that make us who we are as a country,” said Mayor Nenshi. “HORIZON is a stunning and inspiring way to share Canada with ourselves and the world. 3 Things for Canada encourages Canadians to turn that inspiration into action to make this country an even better place for us all.”

HORIZON’s theatrical run at Calgary’s TELUS Spark will continue throughout the summer as one of many locations where Canadians can see the film.  Through the cinematic dome tour, fixed-dome theatres, pop-up dome events and VR exhibitions, audiences across Canada can experience HORIZON and other SESQUI programs. The film is also available through SESQUI’s mobile app, MERIDIAN VR, now available for android.

HORIZON is directed by Drew Lightfoot and produced by Jen Scott with Executive Producers Joanne Loton and Andrea Stewart.  The film was made possible through support from the Government of Canada and from various technology, equipment, production and other public partners across Canada.

Your “things” could be as simple as picking up garbage on your street or as involved as volunteering for an organization that is making a difference around the world. Just ask yourself: What am I passionate about? What can I do to help? Imagine how we can change Canada and the world if we all did 3 Things for Canada this year! www.ThreeThingsforCanada, #3ThingsforCanada
